Game Night
Tuesday night I drove on down to San Mateo area to go to Game Night at an old friend's place.
Now, I used to work down that way with this gent, and with a number of other people who would be there including one in visiting from Chicago. So it was a big reunion in a way, and that was good. It's funny how you can visit with certain people and it seems as if no time has passed.
Everyone is looking for engineers, so I gave the usual round of polite turndowns. I hope I don't come to regret this when I am actually looking for work!
It was good to reunite with them, though! We ate pizza, drank soda (it's a dry household, not that there's anything wrong with that), and ate cookies while playing a number of games.
Since we were many people, we split into two groups. One played a great game called Kill Doctor Lucky, which is a sort of anti-Clue(do) published by a company with the perfectly descriptive name of Cheapass Games. I'd played it before, so I opted instead to join the other table for a game of Fluxx.
Fluxx is a game where the rules change based on the cards you play. It's a pretty neat concept, but I found that it was virtually impossible to effectively have any strategy, because the other players would just change the goal of the game willy-nilly. It was possible to build up a winning hand, but when we played, someone just won by the luck of the draw in a single turn before I could bring any long-term plans to fruition.
But the game is recommended by Mensa, so maybe I'm just stupid.
